Pet vaccinations: prepare for the next visit
PetTouch ·
Why vaccination plans differ, and what to bring and ask at your next appointment.

“Is my pet vaccinated?” needs a few details: which vaccine, when it was given and whether the initial course was completed. A social-media calendar cannot fit every animal.
Build an individual plan
Age, health, previous doses, contact with other animals, travel and local disease risks all matter. Some vaccines are core; others depend on exposure. Your vet also considers the product instructions and local requirements rather than copying another country's schedule.
Young pets need a course
Kittens and puppies usually need several initial doses. One injection does not automatically mean full protection. Indoor cats can need core vaccines too. Ask when outdoor access and mixing are appropriate, and limit avoidable exposure until your vet advises it is safe.
Bring useful information
- The vaccination card or a clear photo, including dates and product names where available.
- Approximate age, current medicines and any symptoms.
- Any previous reaction after a vaccine.
- Plans for travel or contact with other animals.
After the appointment
Record the next due date and ask what to expect afterwards. Breathing difficulty, facial swelling or collapse after vaccination need immediate emergency care. If records are missing or a dose is late, do not guess or repeat it yourself. Ask your vet to work out the right next step.
